Passerbye (Poem)

I woke up this morning

Or maybe I was never asleep

Or maybe I’m not even awake

Or maybe life is more than I can take

Or maybe I’m just a passerbye
Passing by moments
Hello and goodbye

Not thinking much of it as I dole out my days
Portioning rations to all that I slave

Fussin and cussin
As I sit at my table

Gorging on fistfuls
Never chewing what I swallow

Never taking the time to sequester each course
Distinguishing every flavor
Savoring every morsel

Never thanking the cook
Or tipping the waiter
Or asking my fellows how they faired for the day

A stranger to my days
A thief to my nights

Passing by moments
Hello and goodbye
