Paper Planes (Poem)

Earl Simmons (DMX) December 18, 1970 – April 9, 2021

He wanted to fly
And he did for a while

But every paper plane loses its flight
Falls where it falls
Floating freestyle

He thought he had one more run
But his heart did not agree

He took the leap of faith
And slipped slowly into the resting place he knew he’d one day see

He knew he’d be dearly missed
But life has no insurance

All we have is the moment
But his moments all have passed

Now all that’s left is a memory
And a chasing after wind

Delivering fleets of paper planes into oblivion
