Caseload (Poem)

Oh what a caseload

Recovery, recovery all around
But not enough to sink

Into the minds of the slaves
holding onto the ways
that make them sink

Into the oblivion they prayed to escape
time and time again

They keep coming back
to remind them once more
what it’s like to sink again

A caseload so heavy
no ship could endure

“I’ll never let go…”
As they sink to the floor
